Depression — An Opportunity for Transformation
and Renewal

Depression is quite common in our modern society and something many of us will encounter in our lives, either through our own or others' experience. For me personally, I have experienced depression on and off for many years. Recently, it's occurred to me that it is an opportunity for transformation and renewal; transforming energetic states from fear to love, or from sadness to happiness. It's about feeling the pain, the sadness, and transforming it or dissolving it. We have the power to do this with our intent and our willingness to transform our lives. We are all responsible for our own happiness; it is a choice we make, either consciously or subconsciously.

Depression is a bit like getting stuck in sadness or past trauma and not being able to navigate out of it. It can be overwhelming and debilitating. Often, we may have experienced some unfortunate life events, such as being abused while growing up, for example. It can take a lot of inner work to heal from these sorts of experiences, but it is indeed possible and worth the effort.

If you've been experiencing depression, beginning with acceptance of 'what is' can be a helpful start. Recognize that the quality of our thoughts and emotions play a key role in both depression and navigating our way out of it. If you continually think negative thoughts, it won't be long before you're feeling sad or depressed. So, learning to practice replacing a negative thought with a positive thought can help prevent future bouts of depression or sadness. Sometimes you may need counselling, and this in no way a failure on your part.

Some people, as well, are just more prone to depression, and in moderate to severe cases medication can help. I am also a big advocate of taking natural supplements that can improve both your mental and physical health without the nasty side effects that you often experience with medication. Past trauma can alter your brain chemistry as well, so seeking healing and things that can help and work for you is important.

Practicing positive affirmations, either out loud or listening to a recording, can be very helpful in learning to think in a more positive way. At first it is common to feel resistance from your ego while practicing positive affirmations. Often, when we view ourselves in a certain way, accepting a new truth can take some time to settle and sink in. This is how positive affirmations work. It's literally a matter of reprogramming your mind to think in a more positive way. The Internet, for example YouTube, is a great place to start to listen to some positive affirmations for free, or by listening on Spotify or Apple Music.

A metaphysical aspect that is often overlooked with depression is the presence of unseen entities or negative energies that may be around us. People who are clairvoyant can often see entities attached to people or in their homes, but most of us don't see them unless we have learnt to open our third eye. Depending on your belief or faith, it can be helpful to call on white light or an angel, for protection daily. If you are religious, you may like to call upon Jesus, or a deity. Smudging your home with sage or incense, with the intention to clear energies, can also be beneficial.

For many people living with depression, it comes and goes and is perhaps something you have to manage. But, with effort and care, it can improve and you can live a meaningful life. Life on Earth can be quite a challenge, but we all have the opportunity to transform our lives if we wish and desire to. It's important to always remember that you are not alone and that there is always help available. View the difficult days as a boot camp for your soul and an opportunity for propelling your evolution forward.
